AAVMC Annual Conference

The AAVMC will be hosting the 2021 AAVMC Annual Conference starting tomorrow. Check out more information about this awesome student opportunity below!

The AAVMC welcomes veterinary students to attend a special student track of the AAVMC Annual Conference Catalyze 2021: Connect & Innovate in the Face of Global Challenges. This program is tailored specifically for veterinary students. We are excited about presenting our 2021 conference as a virtual experience. Our acclaimed Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion programming has never been more important. Of note: one of our Keynote speakers this year is Dr. Robin DiAngelo, author of the book White Fragility. Dr. DiAngelo's session will not be recorded and will only be accessible live on March 5th. The remainder of the student programming will be available both live and as a recording. 2019 AAVMC Annual Conference and Iverson Bell Symposium

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for faculty and students to share their work and ideas during the 2019 AAVMC Annual Conference and Iverson Bell Symposium, March 6-10, 2019 in Washington, D.C. Proposals for educational sessions and posters should be submitted no later than August 15, 2018.
 
The Iverson Bell Symposium is named for the first African-American veterinarian to hold the position of Vice-President in the American Veterinary Medical Association. The Symposium is held every two years and will celebrate its 21st occurrence this coming year. The primary goal of the conference is to promote diversity and inclusion in academic veterinary medicine.
 
The theme of the 2019 conference is The Science of Building Inclusive Teams.
  
Proposals will be considered in the following categories.

  • Programming Specific to Diversity and Inclusion Topics — Programming centered on diversity and inclusion issues, whether targeted to diversity officers or broader audiences
  • Other Programming with a Diversity and Inclusion Component — Thematic content centered on another program area, with a diversity and inclusion component. Examples of other program areas might include, but not be limited to:
    • Education
    • Research
    • Admissions
    • Recruitment
    • Mental Health and Wellbeing
    • Organizational Development
    • Leadership Development

 
The following attributes are encouraged for educational sessions:

  • Presentations that feature interactive learning and/or small group discussion
  • Data-based presentations that address research and survey trends
  • Proposals from collaborative, multi-institutional teams
  • Incorporation of inter-professional perspectives
  • Proposals with an international or global focus
